It's a stereotype: Eating healthy and plant based is EXPENSIVE!
But as we all know, stereotypes are never the rule. Skipping the meat can actually impact your bank account quite a lot.
As you might have already experienced, animal products can be quite expensive, especially when you prefer buying the "Bio" option, as I usually intended before I became a vegetarian two years ago. You might counter this fact by saying "fake meat is just as expensive". Yes, it is, but being plant based does not mean that you need to replace your meat intake with "fake" meat. This might be a good option at the beginning when you are trying to ease your way into being plant based, but after a while you will discover that there are many other options.
To list just a few plant based meat substitutes (+ the prices)...
Jackfruit (2.45 Euros at Albert Heijn)
Lentils (1.19 Euros at Jumbo)
Tofu (1.56 Euros at Jumbo)
Tempeh (2.49 Euros at Jumbo)
Falafel (1.49 Euros at Jumbo)
As you can see, none of these are even over 3 Euros, making it very cheap to create plant based meals with a high amount of protein. Eating less animal products = spending less money. Be #cheap and #sustainable.
P.S.: As many fear they might not get all the nutrients they would usually get from animal products, that is a false assumption. The only vitamin you will need to take is Vitamin B12.
