Plant based - just a new trend or is there more?

Writer: MariekeMarieke

As #gretathunberg made it very clear to almost all of us, we are currently living in a world that is dying. The reason for that are our actions. As sad as this sounds, there is also an uplifting message that comes with this: Our actions can change this again.

One main factor is our consumption of animals and their byproducts. Animal consumption does not just bring up the ethical question, but also the impact animal agriculture has on our planet. If you have seen Cowspiracy, you already know about the tremendous impact this has on greenhouse gases, deforestation, water shortage, waste and also animal extinction.

The biggest action against #climatechange YOU can take today is to skip the animal products in the supermarket isles and instead opt for plant based alternatives.

Now the question - what do we mean by #plantbased?

Plant based = mainly consuming non-animal products

Many people like to interpret plant based as #vegan but there is one main difference, which is that it does not restrict you to avoid having a slice of that delicious cheese cake your grandma made for her 70th birthday but instead you are focusing on being aware of your animal product intake and consciously try to avoid it as much as possible.

Now, that we have cleared this up, you can jump start your #sustainable life!

Tune in tomorrow for plant based food inspiration #recipes
